At DL Engineering, we’re passionate about creating a more inclusive and diverse construction industry. In this blog post, we want to celebrate two amazing women who are making waves in their respective fields:
Girls Build: Empowering Girls Through Carpentry
We often hear about the gender gap in STEM fields, and construction is no exception. However, initiatives like “Girls Build” are working hard to change that narrative. Founded by Katie Hughes, Girls Build introduces young girls (ages 8-15) to the world of carpentry, metalwork, and electrical work. Led by women and non-binary craftspeople, the program fosters hands-on learning and inspires a new generation of female builders.
Project Spotlight: A Custom Dream Home Engineered by Women
February saw the completion of the design of a remarkable project by two talented women: Missy Brown (Design) and Kelly Hoiness (Engineering) from DL Engineering. This custom single-family home in Littleton, Colorado, stands as a testament to their expertise. The 6,600 sq ft residence presented unique challenges, such as the inset second-floor walls requiring special wind resistance features and numerous windows necessitating advanced engineered shear walls. Despite these complexities, Missy and Kelly’s combined vision and engineering know-how ensured a safe and sturdy dream home for its future residents.
Building a Brighter Future Together
These are just two inspiring examples of women making significant contributions to the construction industry. At DL Engineering, we’re committed to fostering a culture that welcomes and empowers women in all aspects of construction.
If you’re a woman interested in a career in construction or an architect/designer seeking a collaborative engineering partner, we encourage you to reach out! Together, let’s build a more sustainable and promising future for the industry.
